Who's it for?

Band 5–6 nurses in POA (NHS or independent) and allied professionals (e.g., pharmacists, ODPs).

Who's teaches it?

Preoperative Association Education Faculty—an inter-professional team of national experts (nurses, anaesthetists, pharmacists).

Format

Three days of face-to-face, small-group teaching with cases and problem-solving to consolidate Foundation content.

• Evidence-based practice & current guidelines
• Core POA nursing skills & competencies
• History taking; recognising anaesthetic issues
• Medication management (incl. herbal)
• Lifestyle, prehabilitation, obesity & OSA
• Cardiac & respiratory conditions
• Common comorbidities: diabetes, anaemia, hypertension
• Airway assessment & chest auscultation
• Blood results & ECG interpretation (incl. abnormal findings)
• Identifying high-risk patients & referral pathways
• Pharmacy challenges
• Scenario-based interactive sessions
